Harry de Jong, founder and former owner of AVAQ, talks about the years of cooperation with Micpoint and the development of a unique security system for vehicles through MyFMS.
“Our partnership with MyFMS began years ago when a major client had personal security challenges,” De Jong says. “Through the finance director at the time, we came into contact with MyFMS, which had already developed a system for tracking vehicles – ideal for insurance applications. However, we had an additional requirement: the system also had to contribute to occupant safety.”
Together, a solution was developed that goes beyond vehicle tracking. The result is a security system that not only maps the location of vehicles, but also provides the ability to act quickly in the event of a threat.
The system is based on the technology of MyFMS with an important extension: an occupant alarm button. “Previously, the system had a box in the car that was unusable for the driver himself,” De Jong explained. “MyFMS modified this so that occupants can now use an alarm button in case of emergencies, such as a threat or a traffic accident. When the button is pressed, a notification is sent to our control center, which can be accessed via a phone line from inside the vehicle.”
De Jong stresses the importance of clear follow-up protocols. “When an alarm report comes in, we want to be sure that the right action is taken. We worked out several scenarios and drew up a protocol for each one. As a result, users know exactly what to expect when they use the emergency button, and how we respond.”
The combination of MyFMS’ technology and the protocols and alarm tracking developed by AVAQ, results in a unique solution. “MyFMS provided the technical reliability, and we developed the protocols and alarm tracking. The system allows us to quickly transmit data to the police and in a number of cases has resulted in the abandonment of criminal actions,” explains De Jong. “Our response to alerts is quick and targeted: we gather information and assess the threat in order to respond appropriately.”
