Odido is a Dutch telecom provider offering both mobile and fixed Internet services to consumers and businesses. The company, formerly known as T-Mobile Netherlands, focuses on providing reliable and flexible connectivity solutions. In 2019, Odido’s stores were regularly raided. Something had to be done, as the robberies had a major impact on both employees and customers. ‘Colleagues fell out and customers talked about it,’ says Michel Beer, Physical Security & Investigation Specialist at Odido.
‘We were urgently looking for ways to prevent the robberies and, if they did occur, to track down the perpetrators and our stuff as quickly as possible. Initially, we looked at Apple airtags, but airtags were not quite the solution we could deploy en masse. One of our colleagues was already familiar with MyFMS. They had the best turnkey product with their pointers. Both the hardware and the software package, MyFMS Supply Chain Security, were already available.’
After a short pilot, because there was considerable pressure, several products were equipped with MyFMS’ pointers. ‘We took many background measures against the robberies, and this was one of them. In the beginning, MyFMS stuck the tags in the boxes; later the phones went into safety boxes with a tag attached. That was even easier.’
What was most important to Odido about the pointers was battery life. ‘You want to delay replacing batteries as long as possible,’ Beer explained. ‘The batteries on MyFMS’ pointers last about a year, so that’s operationally sound.’
Odido really noticed a difference: robberies continued for a while, but declined, and perpetrators were caught faster and faster, often within the hour. ‘We were able to report the exact location to the police,’ Beer says. ‘And apart from the results: it improved our people’s sense of security, and that was also incredibly important.’
By now, fortunately, the worst of the pressure is off. ‘For example, we are still looking at what security measures we take when launching new iPhones, so the pointers still play an important role at times like that.’ Beer is pleased with the collaboration: ‘The team at MyFMS is very flexible and quick to change gears. I have confidence in our cooperation and it will continue for the foreseeable future,” Beer concludes.
